My First Night at the Journalism Workshop
I arrived at Auburn University on Sunday, June 17 all the way from Texas. I was excited but nervous at first about the workshop and making new friends. As soon as I arrived, I felt comfortable around all the kids who were here too for the journalism workshop. Once I finished unpacking, my roommate Ayannta arrived. I was worried that my roommate might be crazy, extremely loud, or weird, but once I met her I realized that she was none of the above. I really enjoyed getting to know her the first hour I was here.
Around 6 we headed out to dinner at the Arboretum which is on campus. It is a beautiful outdoor wooded area and nothing what I expected at all. As we ate dinner, I met new people and learned interesting things about them. There were kids from many different states including Arkansas, Alabama, Georgia, Illinois, and Florida. I was the only person from Texas :))
After we ate dinner, it was time for us to interview another kid at journalism camp. I interviewed Omari who turned out to be quite interesting. He is from Florida and will be a senior next year. I learned many interesting things about him such as his love of football, shoe size, favorite movie, and favorite rapper. When we finished the interviews, we introduced the person we interviewed to the rest of the group. This was really cool because I was able to get to know everyone on a better level just by hearing interesting things about them.
Once we finished introducing everyone, we headed back to the dorm for some free time. The boys played football outside, while I talked to some new made friends and got to know them better. Later, all of us watched The Hangover before retreating back to our rooms for bedtime. I had a great first day at Auburn and I hope that the days continue to get better!
